Simona A. Bălan leads the External Communications and Environmental Justice unit in the Safer Consumer Products Program at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. Her work has led to regulatory restrictions on the class of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in certain consumer products to protect California's people and environment. She has a PhD in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of California, Berkeley, where she occasionally lectures in the School of Public Health.
